Data Analysis Project

Suppose you are in the market to purchase a used car. To make an informed decision regarding your purchase, you would like to collect as much information as possible. Among the information you might consider are the typical price of the car, the typical number of miles the car should have, and its crash test results, insurance costs, and expected repair costs. Make a list of at least three cars that you would consider purchasing. To be fair, the cars should be in the same class (compact, midsize, etc). They should also be of the same age. Collect information regarding the three cars in your list by finding at eight cars of each that are for sale. Obtain such information as the asking price and the number of miles the car has. Sources of data include your local newspaper, classified ads, and car websites (www.cars.com and www.vehix.com). Compute the summary statistics for asking price, number of miles, and other variables of interest. Remember, the summary statistics include min, max, mean, median, mode, range, variance, standard deviation, and so on. Write a report (4-5 paragraphs) in Microsoft Word with supporting data supporting your conclusion regarding which car you would purchase and why. Attach the Excel sheet used for the primary data source. You’ll submit both the Word document and Excel file.

Hamlet and Lyrical Ballads

Hamlet and Lyrical Ballads
During the term you have to write only one paper (or take the midterm), and this is the first of three options. You can choose any one of these topics below for your first paper.
Make sure you have a clear and coherent thesis and a well developed introduction. Make a clear outline for the body of the paper. Give examples, including several quotations, from the books.
At the end, list your works cited, especially if you are using different edition Imagining how male writers try to evoke sympathy with women, compare one of the important female characters in the tragedy byShakespeare with one ofthe important female figures in the poems of Wordsworth. Focus upon just one or two scenes with each character. For example, you could compare Ophelia with the female vagrant. You could focus upon Gertrude with the Mad Mother etc. Try to explore how the way male writers portray women tells us about the way women have had power, respect or value or lacked any or all of these
Imagine how heroism has changed between the Elizabethan period when Shakespeare was writing and the late 1700s when Wordsworth was writing. Pick just one heroic figure from the tragedy and one specific scene, and then pick one heroic figure in Lyrical Ballads. For example, you could pick Prince Hamlet in the scene where he finally takes revenge on the usurper Claudius and kills him, and then compare him with the Ancyent Marinere in the scene where he explains he moral of his long story of committing a grave error and then being redeemed. How has the idea of masculine heroic action changed?
Imagine how our feelings about social justice have changed between the tragedy and the lyrical poems. Pick one example in each work where you can see a very clear example of an injustice and a response to that injustice. This could be a minor injustice or a major one, in either case. But look for very specific examples. For example, Polonius thinks it is okay to send a spy to France to basically find out everything that his son, Laertes, will be doing. Even the spy thinks the way the father is acting is questionable. In the lyrical poems, there is one very clear example of a wealthy landowner surprising a very poor old woman who needed some sticks to stay warm in the winter, which seems really unfair, given that the rich man has no need for the sticks, so the old woman curses the rich man. So then you should try to explore what people in various times pay attention to in terms of social justice.
Another example in the tragedy is the way that Polonius forces Ophelia to work for the king as a spy and forces her to reject Hamlet, the man she loves. She has no choice about any of this. So you could compare the way even a woman in a high ranking place in society still has almost no power or control over her own life. You could compare her with one of the women who is oppressed by social conditions in the poems. One theme to consider here is whether women in 1798 are in any better position than women in the early 1600s.

‘Power of Broke’ Inspired

‘Power of Broke’ Inspired
The final in the CMO essay trio draws upon the ideas put forth by successful entrepreneurial evangelist, ‘Shark’ Daymond John. In response to specific questions, incorporate the lessons of this book and the author’s 'SHARK Points.' You will also be asked for takeaway insights for your future professional pursuits. Concepts from the
Lodish text as reinforce your thesis should also be referenced.
1. SHARK Points: Pick three (3) of the author/coach's favorite quotes as inspired or motivated this semester, or otherwise provided clarity about the rewarding life of an entrepreneurial marketer. Relate each to how they have informed your TVP project and/or your goals for this summer (internship or employment).
2. Defining Success: Daymond John reviews several journeys of start-up business owners, mostly those that became unstuck, dug in deep and improved their prospects. Pick one 'Power of Broke' business owner profile whose story you found particularly relevant, inspirational or cautionary. Offer a brief essay (2-3 paragraphs) that reviews this story as if the reader audience was meeting him/her for the first time. Make sure to update the story by doing additional research about the business. What did you learn from their story that you will take forward? What notable accomplishments or milestones have occurred since Daymond John profiled them as a case study in his book? This is a multi-part question.Power of Broke Student Course: Daymond John has been expanding his media platform to further diversify his brand portfolio and grow revenue, to include the release of his latest book this past January. Go online to familiarize yourself with his media educational empire and many self-branded marketing products. He is far from alone: from Forbes to Inc. among many business gurus, media
organizations use branded conferences and coursework as channels to court customers for paid education and consultation services. Do you feel there would be value in an online course or podcast created by Daymond John that is directed to college students? Why or why not? If you could have a published expert whose credentials as an early-stage business owner or respected influencer would benefit entrepreneurial marketing students, who would that be? Please write a 1-2 paragraph description of the course as you would design it as would share their unique experience. Include pricing of the product portfolio and what you and your friends would be willing to pay for as reported through a survey that you administer Gen Z v Millennials: Marketing successfully requires that you understand and can speak the language of your target customers and their influencers. Having 'street cred' was a key formula of Daymond John's earliest success. You are the CMO of an employer that is concerned about recruitment and retention of its workforce, looking into the pipeline of Gen Z and Millennial employees. Identify your generational group. Complete this chart for both demographics as will permit a comparison of the values, desires and filters that researchers have determined influence worker loyalty and consideration of an employer. Footnote your sources. Does this provide you with an accurate snapshot of you as an employee or manager? Will these insights in any way influence your job search (whether internship or permanent) Employer Communication: As a second part to Sec. 4 (above) and in your role as the
employer's CMO, offer your counsel as to how an employer must engage these employees (from both demographics) in ways that will accomplish the best possible outcomes: technology fluency, curiosity, loyalty, evangelism and worth ethicBONUS: Nonprofit Marketing. Budgets are smallest when you are a donor-driven, notfor-profit
organization. It's one of the reasons that nonprofits recruit experts to working committees and board service, when doing so will fortify specific skill sets (like marketing) and donor reach. Volunteerism for most students begins in high school in preparation for college applications. Using a nonprofit organization (can be a CBO, NGO or charity) with which you have personal familiarity, you are asked to introduce your chosen organization, include an overview of its purpose, its geographic and demographic profile and any recent changes, e.g., expansion, merger, rebranding. Applying the principles of our course books, recommend two (2) new marketing efforts that would benefit the organization in a meaningful way, indicating the estimated cost and labor
resources to execute each, and the means by which you would measure the impact after a specific timeframe. This is a multi-part question

Be careful not to use valuable space by restating the question; just declaratively present your answers, footnoting references as confirm your required use of primary and secondary research (Blackboard: Library Resources, plus list below). Follow these content guidelines carefully, matching each Section’s requirements to those shown in the Grading Chart.
1. Company Story: Introduce the corporation’s product mix, target audiences, market position and competitive environment. Include the stock ticker, NAISC code and an analysis of its recent financial performance, noting any important product, market or organizational milestones that impacted those numbers. Briefly demonstrate your familiarity with its mission and the competitive and Federal regulatory environment within which it markets its business.
2. Internal Entrepreneurism: Name two (2) ways through which the corporation’s executive leadership has set out to build and articulate an entrepreneurial or team culture.
What is new, what is intended by these changes, and has there been any impact to the employee experience? Who evangelizes the brand personality and do you feel that this executive inspires the workforce to feel empowered or to be inspired? As the CMO, what you do anything differently, if anything?
3. Business + Marketing Reengineering: Has the company restructured in order to be more streamlined or less hierarchical, changed its customer product direction, revamped customer-facing communications or improved its speed-to-market product R&D?
Briefly bullet three (3) ways the company claims new agility to achieve sustainable growth. Perhaps it has a ‘hot’ new division, R&D lab, partnership with a university, claims an innovation center, implements workforce development, embraced social media, made strategic acquisitions or has rebranded altogether. Be sure to include what is intended by these actions.
4. Employer Appeal: Comment on two (2) ways that this company’s current story appeals to you as a prospective employee, or did not. Did anything you learned surprise or intrigue you? Consider in your analysis the corporate culture, diversity, company values, ability to innovate and the presence of a social impact commitment—any criterion important for them to hire you and for you to want to work there.
5. Customer Experience (UX): Name two (2) ways that the company had tried to redefine its customer experience in order to build and reward loyalty. Has it successfully reinvented its B2B/C product or service delivery, diversified into promising market sectors or otherwise changed the customer’s experience? Does the company utilize a means of listening to customers?
BONUS Quote: Set up as one Q&A, report a direct interview of an executive from the company that you chose with a first-person quote. It should be the executive’s response to an insightful question that explores any aspect of how the company has changed its marketing communication in an effort to convey new agility, inventiveness and relevance to customers or investors. It can also address how the company values bottom-up employee contributions. Be strategic: chose a company in which you have genuine interest (brand or category) for future internship or job prospecting! Include your source’s contact info (name, title, email and LinkedIn). Please set the expectation that they could be contacted to verify your chat. Be sure to have connected with them on LinkedIn!

USA Olympics + Corporate Social Responsibility ('CSR')

USA Olympics + Corporate Social Responsibility ('CSR')
Brand alignment to an event that brings billions of eyeballs, as is the marketing magnet of the Olympic Games, is the ultimate platform through which to promote a brand's  distinctive corporate social responsibility ('CSR') messages. More than a logo on custom patriotic sportswear, Global Olympic and Team USA sponsors can be touting their records for multiculturalism, community impact, environmental technology, etc. Sports and event sponsorships are typically cost-prohibitive for a bootstrapped or early-stage business. That isn't to say that Team USA sponsors wouldn't benefit from an entrepreneurial marketing approach to extract the most of this rare and extended campaign opportunity for their brand. In your first CMO assignment, you will be examining and contrasting brand marketing via the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games and the use of entrepreneurial marketing techniques. Questions will invite your comments as to marketing that seems rudimentary, and that which is more imaginative and entrepreneurial. Then you will be invited to outline your guidance to a start-up in how to attach a brand to the audiences drawn to the Olympics—affordably but still effectively. You will need to do research and reference our books.
IOC Sponsorships: What do IOC sponsorships cost? Indicate three (3) tiers of Olympic sponsor packages and how they differ, noting the Games' years with the costs that you are citing, and the source of your information. Do you feel the Olympic Games are a viable marketing activity for an early stage entrepreneurial marketer? Please back up your answer.
Are Entrepreneurial Marketers and Olympic Games Good Teammates? Achieving brand sustainability through an entrepreneurial approach to marketing is a foundational theme of the Lodish text. Please name three (3) US brands that have maintained multi-year Olympic marketing commitments and what you find to be the most creative, even economical ways that these companies have
leveraged the Olympic Games to build favorable brand reputation and visibility.
Specify the target markets to which these brands are focused. This is a multi-part question so be attentive to answering completely.
Boston 2024: Boston won the IOC's award of 2024 Summer Games, and then declined the host city invitation. What was the crux of that decision? How would this lesson affect your approach to creating partnerships for a brand that you are marketing?
Team USA 'Ambusher': What is an 'ambusher' and how would it relate to leveraging the Olympics as a CMO? Have the Olympics ever had an ambusher? Please describe your findings. Applying this strategy, how would you create a Team USA-themed marketing campaign for a small business (SpinGig or otherwise) that connects with the energy and messages of 'competition,' 'teamwork' and 'accomplishment' that permeate the Olympic Games? Consulting the Lodish and John books for ideas, please list three (3) ideas and how they would fit with the company you are marketing. Pictures to illustrate your idea are welcome.
McDonald's: Last spring McDonald's Corporate announced the termination of the conpany's IOC sponsorship contract. Having been a stalwart Global Olympic partner for more than 40 years, this was big news across the advertising trades. As CMO, briefly explain two (2) entrepreneurial marketing activites for McDonald's to maintain its brand influence to core customer targets, particularly those inspired
through global sports marketing? Please connect your ideas to specific demographics and indicate how you would measure the performance of your ideas
Metaphor Marketing: The conversation around Olympic-level competitiveness invites a variety of applicable metaphors to entrepreneurial marketing: teamwork,  focus, goal, practice, and others. Pick three (3) words from this starter list, or select others of your choice, and briefly discuss how these metaphors will inform your thoughts about your TVP project and the work you'll be contributing as consultant to SpinGig.

Who is responsible for the team not functioning well? How are they creating problems

Bill didn’t sleep very well that night. He kept waking up with the same thoughts running through his head. It was the third morning in a row he was groggy from sleeping poorly. Most of the other team members were already sittingaround the table in the lab when he arrived. Sue was diligently studying for a test later that afternoon, and Tyler was talking to his fiancée on the cell phone. Both of them nodded to Bill as he came in. Fifteen minutes later, and ten minutes after the meeting was supposed to start, Tyler called Rachel, waking her from a sound sleep. “Man, I always have to call her and wake her up. This is really unfair. She has no regard for any of the other people on her team” said Tyler after hanging up the phone. “I don’t even know why we put up with her not showing up.” Another half hour went by before Rachel, dressed in sweatpants, arrived in the lab. “Sorry I’m late guys. My alarm clock didn’t go off again this morning. I need to replace that stupid thing, but my mom hasn’t sent me a check for this month.” “That’s O.k., Rachel” said Tyler. “I have trouble with my alarm clock too. I think the stuff they sell at Wal-Mart breaks really easily. I stopped by Daylight Doughnuts and picked up a dozen. Go ahead and have one. It will help wake you up.” “Thanks, Tyler. You are a great guy to have on a team.”  “Let’s get this meeting started. We are already more than half an hour late, and I have another class to get to. Each of us had an assignment that we were supposed to do for this circuit design project. Let’s pull out the preliminary designs and do a side-by-side comparison to see if these circuits we designed will work together.” The sound of papers rustling filled the room as each of the team members pulled their circuit designs from their backpacks. Bill started the discussion since his part of the design was the microprocessor unit; the heart of their project.
Each of the other team members had designed peripheral or input/output devices. It was fairly clear that Bill had put a lot of effort into researching various microprocessors, bringing out reams of data sheets for all the devices he investigated. Over the next 30 minutes, Bill explained the details of why he had chosen the particular model of his design and what some of the tradeoffs were. He gave a summary sheet to each of the other team members with specifications of what input and output signals needed to be from their sections.
“Wow, Bill, that’s a pretty impressive piece of work,” said Tyler. “My design is pretty simple compared to yours. You guys remember that I was supposed to develop the audio input stage and associated electronics to allow the analog signal to be put into the analog to digital converter pin…” Tyler continued to explain his design and mentioned that it would be easy to scale the voltages to whatever level Bill needed on the input A/D pin just by changing resistor values. “This design will probably work Tyler,” said Bill, “but I really disagree with the devices you chose as well as the way that you designed the gain stage. I went ahead and looked up a couple possible other designs, and then I did a simulation to get a slightly better response. You can see that you can get less clipping if you use these new operational amplifiers I
found on the web…”

Next, Sue presented her design, which took a serial bit-stream out of the microprocessor and ran through a series of demultiplexers and latches to drive a variety of input and output devices. Bill, as the team leader, made several changes to her design and asked Sue to incorporate the changes by the next team meeting, on Monday. “OK, Rachel, let’s see your schematic for the power supply,” asked Bill.
“Well, I had a test this week and didn’t get around to doing a lot of simulation, but my friend who took the class before had to do a really similar project. He gave me this design which he used when he took this class. He got an “A” in the class, and he’s really smart. It’s so complicated that I didn’t have a chance to do any simulations or anything, but he swore that it would work well for what we’re trying to do.”
“Well, how do you know it’s going to work if you didn’t do a simulation?” asked Bill. “I know it’s going to work because it did work. Things don’t just stop working if you don’t do a simulation. Besides, this
will save us a whole lot of work.” “Look Rachel, besides this being cheating, every time that you have a design due you turn in something that’s not your own work. I don’t think you’ve done a single simulation, and the reason you got assigned the power supply circuit in the first place was because nobody trusted you to do anything more complicated. You’ve got to start pulling your weight on this team or we’re all going to give you a bad review to lower your grade.”“No, the reason I got assigned the power supply circuit is because you assigned it. Look, just because you’re only taking nine hours a semester and want to get an “A” in this course to preserve your 4.0 doesn’t mean that we all have to work as hard as you do. You’ve got no idea what’s going on in my life, and if you did, you wouldn’t criticize me like that. I don’t even know why I bothered to come to this meeting. Every time I do everybody just busts on me. I’m out of here.” The meeting broke up soon after Rachel left, with Bill stating that he would take over design of the power supply from
Rachel. The next day when Sue and Bill got off the elevator on the way to a test, they heard a familiar voice. “I don’t know why he has to be a dick all the time. It’s not like I’m not working as hard as I can in this class. Besides, the deadlines he sets are really unreasonable; if I had a little bit more time, I would be able to get these circuits done.“
“Yeah, he is kind of a dick. I was pretty pissed off when he told me my circuit design wasn’t good. I went back and simulated his design and it wasn’t really all that much better than the one I turned in. Now I’ve gotta go and ask for samples at all these web site just to get some of the special chips he wants, rather than just buying them here.”

UNIFIED COMMUNICATIONS AT BOEING

UNIFIED COMMUNICATIONS AT BOEING
The Boeing Company (http://www.boeing.com/), headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, is the world’s largest manufacturer of military aircraft and commercial jetliners. Boeing has more than 159,000 employees working in
70 different countries who require effective communication to develop and build some of the world’s most complex products using components from more than 22,000 global suppliers.
The company’s workforce is one of the most highly educated in the world. Most employees hold a college degree and many hold advanced degrees. Collectively Boeing employees have very broad and deep knowledge that can be harnessed to solve problems and design next generation products.
Like many major corporations, Boeing has experienced an uptick in the number of employees who work remotely or travel the majority of each work week. Boeing’s engineers number in the thousands and are purposely scattered worldwide to support the company’s global operations. Boeing organizes its employees into work and project teams. Given the company’s size and geographic footprint, many of Boeing work’s teams include globally dispersed members. Engineers on the same team may be separated by multiple time zones and thousands of miles. Time zone
differences and distance frequently present teams with communication challenges when they are faced with time sensitive issues that must be resolved quickly.
Additional communication issues are associated with the sheer breadth and depth of Boeing’s knowledge base. When faced with questions about a particular part included in one of Boeing’s new airliners, an engineer can be
challenged to identify the right person in the company to contact for answers.

Collaboration Technologies
Boeing knows that continual innovation is important to its long term success.
It also recognizes that effective communication among its employees, customers, and suppliers is an important enabler of continual innovation.
Boeing has traditionally relied on a variety of systems to facilitate
collaboration among its employees and business partners. As illustrated in Figure C1-1a, Web conferencing, audio conferencing, desktop sharing, and mobile voice and data services have been used by Boeing employees to
facilitate communication among geographically dispersed team members.
Historically, these capabilities have been provided by different third-party providers who were selected on the basis of their ability to provide highquality communication services at competitive rates.
By the mid-2000s, Boeing had begun its migration toward unified messaging and unified communications. At that time, instant messaging (IM) was one of the more popular messaging services used Boeing employees. At
Boeing, IM has traditionally been supplemented by Web and audio conferencing services as well as by desktop sharing services. The capabilities provided by these services are especially important when answers to
complex questions are needed. During the mid-2000s, more than 100,000 employees used conferencing services each year. As you might expect, conferencing services represented a significant percentage of Boeing’s annual communication expenses.
Some virtual teams at Boeing have discussions focused on military aircraft. Do some Internet research on UC security mechanisms and identify and briefly describe several that Boeing should have in place to ensure the privacy and integrity of such discussions.
2. To what extent do the UC benefits experienced by Boeing mirror those of other firms that have deployed UC capabilities over converged IP networks?
3. To date, Boeing has not implemented the full range of capabilities available through UC systems. If you were the CIO at Boeing, what additional UC capabilities would you implement? What benefits would you expect Boeing to derive from deploying these capabilities?

interview two people who have successfully completed doctoral programs.

interview two people who have successfully completed doctoral programs.
Your goal in this assignment is to carefully consider and organize the body of your paper around these three key ideas:
What most assisted your interviewees in completing their major research projects or dissertations?
What challenges did your interviewees experience?
What specific recommendations do your interviewees have for successful completion?
Use the following guidelines as you conduct your interview to help you achieve the above three goals:
Select individuals to interview, if possible, who are not AU faculty or staff members, since one purpose of this assignment is to broaden your perspectives regarding conducting doctoral research.
Each interview should take 30–45 minutes, depending on how responsive your interviewees are.
You may conduct your interviews in person or by phone.
Prior to meeting your interviewees, develop 10–15 interview questions you will ask each of them that will hep you to address the above three goals. It is important to ask the same questions to both.
The first question or two should help you understand their research topics and why the topics were of interest to your interviewees. In addition it could be very useful to your research to ask questions like these: What tips do they have for locating good materials, especially research articles? How long did it take the interviewee from start to finish? What resources were required, such as technology, postage, and other costs? Another important area of information concerns the role of the committee chair and the committee members.
Several questions should be asked to help you explore what assisted each person the most in completing the research or dissertation.
Trying to understand the challenges each interviewee faced will also require several questions.
As you conduct each interview, you may ask related, follow up questions to help you better understand each interviewee’s response, such as: “Could you give me a specific example of what you meant when you said …?” or “Could you provide a little more detail about …?” This will help you provide details in your paper as well as enhance your understanding of the challenges faced.
Toward the end of your interview, ask what recommendations each interviewee could provide to help you be successful in the completion of your dissertation.
In order to capture the information from the interview, be prepared to take detailed notes. Some students even request permission to tape record their interviews so they can replay and listen to them to better understand the information provided by each interviewee.
Collate the information gathered from your interviews. Write a three- to four-page analysis comparing and contrasting the information from the two interviews. Do not present the analysis in a question and answer format.
Consider the following as you write your paper:
Introductory Paragraph: Begin your paper with a purpose statement and a map of how you intend to organize your paper. Using the 3 main goals listed above as broad themes/categories with sub headings could be a most useful way to organize this paper. Be sure to also include in this introductory paragraph the name of each or pseudonym [if confidentiality is needed] as well as the basic nature of their research or dissertation study.
Your paper should be an analysis of the interviews and a comparison of their experiences, not just a summary of each specific question asked.
Attach your interview questionnaire to the end of your paper.
By the due date assigned, post your interview analysis in Microsoft Word format to the Submissions Area.

From Problem to Policy Change

From Problem to Policy Change
IDENTIFY the problem that most deeply affects you or your clients.
Identify the problems that concern you or that you are the most passionate about changing. This can be within your organization or institution, your geographic community, your state, or even the country.
LINK the problem to a broader social issue.
Using evidence-based research, look at what has already been done on behalf of your issue and what is still needed. Check for gaps in addressing the problem or issue. Work to understand the situation and identify a solution that will help reduce the problem from happening to more individuals, children, families, or groups. Consider both your clients and the members of the larger community – the solution could be part of a community initiative or a public policy change.
Determine your GOALS.
What are your desired solutions/policy interventions, both short-and long-term? Identify the ways in which you will know your efforts are working, such as increasing the number of people involved in your issue or gaining the attention and support of community leaders or elected officials. Be sure to set realistic, obtainable goals.
Find out who the DECISION-MAKERS are on the issue.
Find out who makes the decisions regarding your issue and what motivates them. This could be the board of a hospital, a community-based health clinic, a mental health or corrections institution, City Council members, or state/federal lawmakers. Help persuade (“elevator speech”) the decision-makers to change the public policy or community norms through ongoing communications and establishing yourself as a credible resource on the issue.Be PERSISTENT. Keep the pressure on through repeated contact with decision-makers. This could include meeting with the decision-makers, writing them letters, and calling or emailing them.
Enlist ALLIES.
Why should the community support this initiative? Who can help you achieve your goals? Identify others, including your colleagues, other child/family advocates, community groups, family members, and friends to support your efforts. Be sure to thank and show appreciation to these people for their support and assistance.
Know your OPPONENTS.
Who opposes this issue and why? Is there any common ground you can work with? Sometimes, opposition stems from being uninformed or from misinterpretation of ideas and information. Knowing the thought process (regardless of its integrity or intent) behind your opposition can help you understand where they are coming from, what their core messages will be, and how you can respond professionally.
Get the MESSAGE out.
People can’t support your effort if they don’t know about it. Write letters to the editor or OpEd pieces for the local newspaper, attend town/city meetings, leverage social media, create a fact sheet about the issues, give presentations, set up information tables at public events, and utilize community communication tools like newsletters, message boards, and meetings.
ANALYZE and EVALUATE outcomes.
How will you know if you’ve achieved your goals? Ask yourself and others what is working, and what isn’t. Monitor the very people (clients) who are affected by the outcomes and stand the most to gain or lose. Modify your activities in response to that feedback. Be willing to start the process all over if something is not working.

Another way you could do this is to write in complete sentence. For example: “The current President is Donald Trump.”
For Part 1, there is no need to provide any information beyond what is asked for in these questions.

Part 2 - Essay on the Meaning of Liberty
As we read in our lectures this week, philosopher John Locke asked: “If a man in the state of nature is free, if he is absolute lord of his own person and possessions, why will he give up his freedom? Why will he put himself under the control of any person or institution?”
John Locke’s answer was: “that the rights in the state of nature are constantly exposed to the attacks of others. Since every man is equal and since most men do not concern themselves with equity and justice, the enjoyment of rights in the state of nature is unsafe and insecure. Hence each man joins in society with others to preserve life, liberty, and property.”
In at least 500 words answer the following questions:
In your own words, what is freedom? (*Note: dictionary definitions of the word freedom will not be accepted)

Does your definition of freedom agree with Locke’s definition of freedom? Why or why not?
Does your definition of liberty agree with Locke’s understanding of liberty? Why or why not?
John Locke argues that freedom and liberty are very different things. Do you agree or not? Why or why not?
Finally, how did these ideas of liberty and freedom connect to the creation of the Constitution?

Reader, Role and Purpose Letters Portfolio Audience, Role and Purpose Letter Portfolio

Reader, Role and Purpose Letters Portfolio Audience, Role and Purpose Letter Portfolio
For this assignment you will write a series of letters to address specific audiences and situations. You will take the specific details provided about who your audience is, what your purpose is in writing and what your role is as the writer for each letter you write. All of these letters will put forward an argument to convince your reader, and the success of your arguments will depend on how skillfully you adapt your writing to the audience, situation and what you hope to achieve. As we will discuss in class, writing for different audiences requires a different tone and level of formality, different use of language and examples and using rhetorical appeals differently to influence the reader you are hoping to convince. Through these letters, you will demonstrate an understanding of how to adapt your writing to different audiences and situations. These letters are also based on real-life personal and professional situations that you will very likely encounter in your life during and after college. Part of the purpose of these letters is to show you clearly know how the material we are covering in the course applies to your personal and professional life.
Depending on the type of letter, the length and detail of your letter will vary slightly, but generally they will not exceed two pages in length, single-spaced. You should follow the Purdue Owl website organization for a business letter here: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/653/01/
These letters will be graded on how effectively you tailor your writing to fit the specific audience and situation, the general organization of your letter and the quality of the arguments you put forward. This portfolio will be worth ten percent of your course grade.

Letter to a friend arguing that they should go back to college
Audience: a personal friend you have known for years. This person began college when you did, but they didn’t take it seriously, partied more than went to class, and ended up dropping out at the end of their first year. For the last two years, they have been working through a series of part time jobs. Because of their lack of a college degree, they have had trouble finding jobs that pay well or are full time positions.
Role: As you have been nearing graduation, you have been thinking more and more about this friend and feel strongly they should give college another try. You are a concerned, old friend.
Purpose: To persuade your friend to return to college so they can have a better life and future.
Letter to a business arguing that they need to refund money for a defective product
Audience: A professional, online business from which you purchased an expensive product (TV, gaming system, or home computer). When the product arrived at your home, it did not work properly, and you immediately contacted them to ask for a refund. They wrote you back and said that they will not take the product back or refund your money, and they suggest that you damaged it yourself while using it. Their tone is hostile and firm in their position.
Role: Your role is customer, but you want to project a professional, serious tone throughout.
Purpose: Your purpose is to convince the company to refund your money for the product you purchased and to convince them that it is in their best interest professionally to do so.
Letter to the editor arguing for a change in campus policy
Audience: Your audience is the university campus community. It will include the students and faculty who may be influenced by the policy, but also the administration who you wish to persuade to change their policy. While people outside the university community might read your letter, your primary audience will be people on campus who read the university newspaper.
Role: A college student, junior level or above, with at least three years experience with campus life and academic situations.
Purpose: To persuade the university to change a long-standing university policy or system to improve conditions for students (though it may improve things for faculty or support staff as well). You will be allowed to choose what campus policy you will discuss, so your purpose will vary somewhat depending on which policy you wish to change.
Letter to your city government identifying a dangerous traffic situation and arguing for something to be done to fix it
Audience: The city government of Terre Haute, Indiana (You may also use your own hometown instead of Terre Haute, but you will need to identify it in your letter). You may address it to the most relevant city official or department if you wish.
Role: Your role is that of a concerned member of the community seeking to remove a safety hazzard or danger you have observed. You should have strong personal knowledge and experience with the location you are discussing and the problem you feel needs to be fixed. While I have specified a traffic problem, you might choose another type of problem that you feel the city needs to address, but it must obviously be something that the city government has control over.
Purpose: To persuade the city government to take direct, immediate action to address a dangerous safety issue you have observed. This will likely require the expenditure of money and use of city resources, so you must be very convincing that THIS problem is more serious than other problems and complaints that the city is dealing with or intending to deal with at the present time.
In some of these situations, specific details will need to be created by you to give your letter the proper level of detail and make a convincing case. You have the freedom to “invent” specific details such as names, events, and specific details you need to make your case, but don’t go overboard and make it outlandish or silly. These letters should be grounded in reality and situations that people deal with on a daily basis.

different ways that managers and leaders use communication to guide their organizations.

different ways that managers and leaders use communication to guide their organizations.
Find an instance where the organizational leader communicates directly with his or her employees, investors, or customers. Analyze the message, the channel, and the potential for feedback. Do you believe that it is effective? Do you believe that it is the same type of message that a manager would send? Why, or why not?
Remember to focus on the communication styles of both leaders and managers. Strive for an equal balance between the two types of communication styles in your assignment.
Example: The Apple events that occur in Cupertino whenever Apple unveils a new product or service are examples of the type of communication you should be analyzing in this assignment. During the events, CEO Tim Cook addresses an audience of employees, investors, and the general public. Cook uses multiple channels to communicate with the audience, including a live face-to-face discussion, live streaming of the discussion, and a recorded video. For the assignment, you would view one of the events, analyze Cook’s message and the effectiveness of the channels, and discuss the potential for feedback. Analyze whether or not the message is an effective example of leadership. Explain whether or not you believe a manager could, or should, use the same types of channels to relay a message. Would it be effective?
Note: Do not need to use Apple for this assignment. It is provided as an example only.
Use the standard five-paragraph format (introduction/body/conclusion). Include at least two academic sources. APA format should be used. The assignment should be a minimum of three Completely full pages in length, not including the title and reference pages. Content, organization, and grammar/mechanics will be evaluated.
