 Extended Research Proposal

The Dissertation route takes the form of an academic research proposal to investigate a specific business and management topic. Students can choose a topic of interest from the taught modules, their work experience or any other current topic linked to their course.

The proposal would be expected to present a coherent argument that makes the case for why a research topic is important, critically evaluates current related theory and related academic and contemporary debate to clarify the specific research questions, identifies a suitable methodological approach and details the strategy of investigation. The proposal should consider the strengths and limitations of the proposed research and ways in which the findings may be useful to management practitioners, academics and other stakeholders working in related fields. Completion of the research proposed is not a requirement of this Route: it is the proposal that will be assessed.

RATIONALE, AIM AND OBJECTIVES	15%	The Rationale for the Research problem, Identification of key Stake holders, Aim and Objectives.
CRITICAL LITERATURE REVIEW	40%	An extensive and detailed Literature Review critically evaluating a range of sources. Identification of the gaps in existing literature and relating them to the research aims and objectives.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND PLAN OF INVESTIGATION	35%	Identification of understanding of different research philosophies and justification of the chosen methodology. Discussion of the available research methods, Extensive description of the proposed methods drawing on a wide range of sources with attention to technical and ethical considerations.
COHERENCE AND CONTRIBUTION	10%	Recommendations and Conclusions
